Robert is serving his 28th season as principal tuba with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, in addition to serving as tuba instructor at Tulane University for 17 years he is an active private teacher in the community teaching high school, college and adult students including the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra for 13 years.
Mister Nunez has performed with some legendary artists and acts in his tenure with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra including: Yo Yo Ma, Ray Charles, Randy Newman, Lionel Hampton, Itsack Pearlman, Kansas, the Moody Blues, Joshua Bell, Dave Brubeck, Conductor Maxim Shostakovich, Ellis Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Phillipe Entremont , Jay Friedman, and Dale Clevenger.
Robert’s experience in the Drum and Bugle realm is extensive, starting as a member of the Stardusters Drum and Bugle Corps 1979 and 1980, The Louisiana Southernaires 1981, Crossmen in 1982 and Phantom Regiment 1983, 1984 and aging out of Phantom in 1985. He was the DCI Contrabass Tuba Individual soloist champion in 1984 and 1985.
Robert was a brass instructor with the Phantom Regiment 1988-1991 and 1993-1996, Phantom won the Jim Ott top brass award in 1989 and 1996 with Nunez and the Phantom Regiment brass staff team. Robert Nunez was a member of the Louisiana Stars Brass staff in its founding year 2014, and has served on the Stars brass team 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Mister Nunez’s Teachers Include Neal Tidwell formerly of the New Orleans Symphony, Richard Erb formerly the New Orleans Symphony and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Legendary Arnold Jacobs of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
